Product Description Solid brass propane filler coupler is designed to be used with refillable and disposable single use cylinders. Works with the new OPD valves in all the new grilling tanks (20lbs). Fill propane cylinders FAST from your 20, 30 or 40-lb. propane tank. No need to buy a new replacement cylinder when you can refill it in a minute... with about 30 cents' worth of gas from your large tank.

Does what it says, but physics will limit you! August 20, 2010 S. Scholz (Pasadena, CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This item refills 1 lb propane bottles about 1/3 to 1/2 full. Even if you put the 1 lb bottle in the freezer to create a vacuum to draw more propane in from the large tank, you'd still only get about 1/2 full. No biggie for me, as I don't mind refilling them again and again for what I use it for (my Camp Chef stove/oven combo).
Now, the real issue is with the 1 lb bottles-they leak once refilled! I have to keep the refilled bottle on my Camp Chef regulator to "seal" them, but I just found out that a Mac Coupler Propane Bottle Cap 2 pack SHOULD seal the bottle so that any leakage will be contained for safety sake. That makes life SO much easier for me!!
Overall, the price is a bit high, but if you use it sufficiently, it will pay for itself in 5 refills or so! I give this product 5 stars as it does what it says it does. Don't blame it for poor refill amounts-that's physics in action.
Only Works If You Follow Directions August 18, 2010 Dennis Prah (Wisconsin, USA) I bought this last year when I bought my Black Cat heater. It WORKS! I froze the one pound bottles over night in the freezer, and kept the 20 pounder in a (warm) back room indoors. If your 20# is full, warm, and the one# are freezing cold you get a full charge, provided you turn the 20# upside down. Anything less it won't happen. My only short fills were my fault, trying to get the last of the gas from the 20#.
Remember this FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
propane tank refill August 12, 2010 great investment This is working wonderfully. Recommend it. Saves from buying new ones. Recycle the one pound tank this way.
Works very good! August 9, 2010 A- One-Day Reversal (Las Vegas, NV) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most of the reviews are not as detailed as some that I have read.
As you know in physics heat rises and cold air rushes in.... you get a flow to a cooler temperature like when its windy (analogous to heat conduction in electricity/heat flow in a passive plumbing system/heat transfer in a heat system.
After you made the plumbing connections its best to leak check with soapy water or snoop Snoop 8oz Leak Detector (747-8OZ-SNOOP) Category: Leak Detectors for your own safety for leaks. I found if you only want (1/2 full on the 1 lb bottle) turn 20lb tank upside down and rest on handle. Connect the 1 lb to fill for 15-20 minutes with both at outside temperature. Yep, you need pull overfill (schrader) valve on 1 lb. tank with small needle nose pliers to bleed gas and ensure proper fill with LIQUID propane.
But what I have read on the websites before I placed my order in at Sears (Mr Heater F276172) I looked at these reviews which go into much more detail.

"With over 100 reviews I was surprised nobody has actually measured what the fill rate is for this device. So here you go... I found that a brand new bottle has 16.25-16.5 oz of propane (I weighed them full and then empty). I filled each of two bottles under different conditions. Using a large (20#) bottle at 60 degF I filled two 1 lb bottles at the same (70 degF) temperature and got them 69% full (to the nearest 1/4 oz). I then chilled two bottles in the refrigerator (45 degF) for one hour and filled them to 80% full. I then chilled two in the freezer (9 degF) for one hour and got them 92% full.
I waited until warmer weather when the large bottle was at 70 degF and tried the freezer trick again. I filled four bottles, one right after the other and achieve a whopping 103% (17oz) into all four of them.
Lesson learned, the warmer the large bottle and colder the small ones, the better the fill rate.
Now you know..."

Problems people have with this are user error!!!, April 21, 2009

"This adapter is exactly what it says it is.
If you are sick of paying $5 for two 1lb. propane tanks everytime you head out, then this is the product for you.
What you need to know to make this work properly:
1. Stick your 1lb. bottles in the freezer at least 30 min. prior to filling.
2. Warm your 20lb. tank (in a hot bath tub or similar) prior to filling.
3. Attach adapter to 20lber 1st, then attach 1lb. bottle.
4. Turn 20lb. tank upside down and rest on handle.
5. Open valve to begin filling.
6. Wait ~10 minutes.
7. Pull overfill (schrader) valve on 1 lb. tank with needle nose pliers to bleed gas and ensure proper fill with LIQUID propane.
8. Turn off 20lb. tank and disconnect 1lb. bottle.
9. Your 1lb bottle will now be completely full.
10. repeat steps 1-9 4x and you've more than paid for this handy adapter!!!"

Great product! July 28, 2010 Strom (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Since getting rid of gasoline and converting my lawnmower, pressure washer, and blower to run on 1lb propane cylinders this adapter has gotten alot of use. I no longer have to put up with smelly gasoline and clogged carbs, etc.. plus propane burns much cleaner, leaves no carbon buildup, and the engines actually run better on it. Back to the adapter.. like a few others have said it doesnt fill them 100% my guess is more like 75-80%, the mower will still run for 1.5 hours on a refilled cylinder vs. almost 2 hours on a brand new store bought cylinder. To get the maximum fill follow the instructions and put the cylinders in the refrig for an hour or so (or in the freezer for about 15 minutes, also put the larger tank in the sun for an hour or so to warm it up. Propane is much more fuel efficient as well, I started the year with a full 20 gal tank and maintain 2 lawns every week and figure its still a ;ittle more than half full. Hope to see more people use propane as their fuel of choice for lawn equiptment in the future, it truely is a "green" fuel and much better for the environment. Also hope to see more manufacturers start manufacturing propane powered eqiuptment but hey if not, converting and engine is not that hard either.
